D. BUHAI-KALUSUGAN
 (HEALTH AND NUTRITION)  

 

         This component responds to the health needs of the community. It aimed at providing the communities support activities that will enhance the health status of community, especially the children.  As part of this component, the university conducts medical missions, feeding and referral of health cases to appropriate agencies for assistance.

The following are the projects and activities in this component:

    1. Medical –Dental and Surgical Mission

           The partner communities enjoy health support and services provided by the university.  Medical mission is held annually in the communities in partnership with other agencies in Naga City and Camarines Sur.  Free check-up and medicines are provided to the beneficiaries.  Patients who are diagnosed to have serious ailments are referred to the Mother Seton Hospital and Bicol Medical Center for further treatment.  The patients are also assisted to avail the services of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and other agencies.

    1. Feeding Project

           The Feeding project is given to malnourished children in the partner communities through the assistance of the students from the different colleges in the university.  The malnourished children are identified in the community and at least a weekly supplemental feeding is provided to them.  There is also feeding activity being done every Sunday at the university catering to the street children.

          Feeding project is also used as strategy by the university to organize the parents and provide formation to them.

    1. Mother Class and Health Teaching

           The mothers in the community are provided with health teaching seminars to enhance their knowledge and skills in managing common diseases and proper nutrition. Topics on reproductive health, primary health care, and responsible parenting are also discussed to the mothers.
